2009 BEST OF SHOW ENTRY
Briggs & Stratton Graphic Services earned the title of Best of Show for the Circle of Life Catalog in the 2009 In-Print competition, sponsored by IPMA and In-Plant Graphics magazine. The catalog was selected for top honors from the 34 Gold Award winners in this year's competition. "What an honor! I was so surprised," explains Graphic Services Manager Debbie Pavletich. “There were outstanding pieces in this year's competition. I am very proud of our production team."

“There’s a lot more credibility...once you get an award like this,” says Press room Supervisor Brian Patterson.

What made the catalog’s design especially difficult to print, though, were the various backgrounds, all of which crossed over onto adjoining pages. Graphic Services was able to match to perfection.

The 120 page perfect bound catalog was produced for SHARP Literacy Inc., a client of Randy Will, Sales Account Manager for Graphic Services. The file was provided by the customer but required scanning of all of the artwork and color correcting images. This was done by Graphic Designer Don Eby.

The project entailed producing over 100 plates, all of which were made by Digital Pre-press Technician Don Becker on the shop’s chemistry-free Agfa Acento thermal computer-to-plate system.

The winning entry took four days to print with three different pressmen working on it, Paul Gulczynski, Jack Prondzinski and Tom Nolan.

SHARP Literacy Inc. is dedicated to teaching students to read and write effectively and build their vocabularies through the use of visual arts and art history.

The intent of the publication is to eliminate racism by helping children better understand their heritage and the varied cultures that make up the Milwaukee community. The book features personal stories written by children about their cultural heritage and their family history. It is illustrated with their drawings and photos of bead collages and murals they had created.

In addition to Best of Show, Graphic Services received a Gold Award for the Briggs & Stratton Vanguard™ Club Car brochure and a Silver Award for the Mader Communications Group Adding Value promotion card.
